Police open investigation into death of adult performer Christian Styles

Police in Michigan have opened a death investigation into the adult performer Christian Styles, whose real name was Zachary Christian Jaghab, and who died on 20 August at the age of 29. An autopsy is being carried out by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office, and until it is complete neither the cause nor the manner of his death will be established.

A death investigation is not the same as a criminal one

The phrase tends to travel badly, and in the days since the news broke it has been doing a good deal of unearned work online. In Michigan, as in most American jurisdictions, a death investigation is the routine administrative process that follows a sudden death in someone young and apparently healthy, and it exists precisely so that a cause can be established rather than assumed. Police have said nothing to suggest anything other than that, and the medical examiner's findings, when they arrive, may take weeks rather than days, since toxicology is usually the slowest part of the process.

That has not stopped a certain amount of speculation, most of it originating from accounts with no connection to the family and no information beyond what has already been published. Anyone circulating a specific cause at this stage is guessing.

Who he was

Styles was born and raised in Canton, Michigan, and moved into adult entertainment in 2021, having previously worked as a flight attendant. He built an audience of more than a million followers across Instagram and X, produced work for OnlyFans, and shot for studios including Mencrush. In 2023 he and Chris Damned took the Favourite All-Male Creator Collab prize at the GayVN Awards, with further nominations following the next year.

His obituary describes him as the youngest son of Johnny and Ellen Jaghab, brother to Tonya Faris and Jacob Jaghab, and uncle to three nieces and nephews. A visitation was held at the Basilica of St Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church in Livonia on 25 August, with burial following at Glen Eden Memorial Park.

A GoFundMe set up by a family friend, Tammy Sultana, is raising money towards funeral and burial costs against a target of twenty thousand dollars, and describes the death as a sudden and heartbreaking loss. The fundraiser notes that both of his parents are dealing with serious illness of their own, including cancer.

Tributes

The performer Caleb Parker posted a short message on Instagram remembering Styles as a sweet boy and wishing for one more laugh together. Perry Wayne, a friend and the founder of the underwear label Wayne Underwear, wrote a brief tribute on Instagram Stories. Mencrush, the studio he worked with, said in a statement that he had left a lasting mark on the community and on everyone who had followed his story.

The investigation remains open while authorities wait on the medical examiner's findings.
